NDEW 2013 was sponsored by NSF, NIH, and DoE and held on April 15th and 16th, 2013, at the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel in Arlington, VA. Over 70 participants—including chairs and designated representatives from 40 chemistry departments, social scientists, and representatives from federal agencies, foundations, and diversity communities—engaged in a high level of action-oriented discussion. Post-workshop communications indicate that a number of departments have already begun to implement programs and practices to reduce diversity inequities as a result of their participation.
